Industrial Biomass Pellet Production Plant Solutions
The biomass pellet plant solution for large industrial production is designed for high-load, high-continuity operation. Through a fully automated production line and digital management platform, businesses can achieve intelligent control over the entire production process, from raw materials to finished products, ensuring high stability and minimal waste in production.
Raw Material Selection
- Energy Crops: Such as elephant grass and bamboo. These crops have a short growth cycle, low cultivation costs, and high cellulose content, making them ideal for producing large volumes of high-calorific-value pellets.
- Forestry Waste: Includes sawdust, bark, and branches. After crushing and drying, these materials are suitable for pellet production. Sawdust has a high carbon content, with a calorific value of up to 4500 kcal/kg, providing excellent combustion performance after pelletizing.
- Agricultural Residues: Such as rice husks, corn stalks, and cotton stems. These agricultural by-products are easy to obtain and cost-effective. Before processing, corn stalks need to be crushed and dried to achieve optimal moisture content and particle size.
Pellet Machines Solution Recommendations
A large-scale biomass pellet plant typically consists of the following core equipment:
- Large Ring Die Pellet Machine: The ring die pellet machine is made of high-wear-resistant alloy steel, suitable for long-term, high-intensity pelletizing. The mold diameter is adjustable, supporting pellet sizes from 8mm to 12mm to meet different application requirements. The pressure of the rollers can also be adjusted to accommodate raw materials of varying densities and compositions, improving pellet formation rates.
- Rotary Drum Dryer: To ensure raw materials maintain a moisture content of 10-15%, the rotary drum dryer features multiple drying sections. Internal mixing blades distribute materials evenly, enhancing moisture evaporation efficiency.
- Cooler: Biomass pellets require rapid cooling after high-temperature compression. The cooler uses counterflow cooling to reduce pellets to room temperature quickly, preventing cracks and improving storage stability.
- Automatic Packing System: This system allows packaging customization according to customer requirements (e.g., 20kg bags or 1-ton bulk bags). It includes automatic sealing and labeling functions, providing standardized packaging for end users.
Finished Pellet Applications
Industrial-grade biomass pellets serve multiple purposes, offering businesses diverse market opportunities:
Power Plants: Biomass pellet fuel generates thermal energy during combustion, replacing part of coal usage for power generation. It achieves a typical combustion efficiency of over 85%, reducing sulfur and nitrogen oxide emissions.
District Heating: In large-scale heating systems, biomass pellets serve as a stable heat source, widely used in winter heating solutions. They are particularly suitable for hospitals, schools, commercial centers, and other high-demand facilities.
Industrial Boilers: Using biomass pellet fuel in industrial boilers significantly lowers fuel costs and carbon emissions. It is ideal for industries requiring substantial thermal energy, such as textiles, food processing, and pulp and paper manufacturing.
Process Design of Complete Wood Pellet Plant
The wood pellet manufacturing process in a industrial biomass pellet mill plant usually includes the following steps:
01 Raw material collection process
Biomass materials are collected and delivered to the pellet plant. Sawdust and shavings are the main sources, but bark and fibers from branches and stumps can also be used. Raw materials are usually stockpiled at this stage to ensure continuous production, and the quantity and type determines the capacity of the factory and influences the subsequent steps.
02 Hammer milling process
Woody materials such as sawdust and shavings are processed into small, uniform particles in a hammer mill, while larger fibers such as twigs need to be shredded before entering the hammermill. Screening of raw materials after processing to remove large fibers that will clog the granulator and rocks and metals that may damage the machine can be carried out before or after drying.
03 Rotary drying process
The material is dried in a rotary dryer to reduce the moisture content to approximately 10% to meet industry standards. This step consumes a lot of energy, about 70% of the energy consumption of the whole production process, and requires reasonable control of energy consumption.
04 Pelleting process
The dried fibers are compressed to make pellets. The lignin and fibers are softened and shaped by friction and the pressure and heat generated by steam. The type of pelletizer is determined by the maximum capacity of the fiber source to ensure continuous production throughout the year.
05 Cooling process
Pellets come out of the pelletizer hot and soft, and need to be cooled gradually to maintain strength and durability, a process that requires no energy.
06 Screening process
The cooled wood pellets are screened to remove dust, fines and larger fibers that have not been adequately processed in the pelletizer. The fines are returned to the pelletizing process for regrinding.
07 Packaging process
Packaging must be free of excess moisture and heat to prevent decay of the pellets. Pellets are tested for compliance and packaged for export to ports or sold directly to local retailers and end consumers for home heating or power generation.
