Four Types of Flat Die Pellet Mills – Based on Power Source
- Electric Pellet Mill: Suitable for areas with stable power supply, offering continuous operation without overheating and ensuring stable performance.
- Diesel Pellet Mill: Designed for regions with limited or costly electricity, providing strong power and high adaptability with a long service life.
- Gasoline Pellet Mill: Lightweight and portable, ideal for mobile operations, delivering efficient power for small-scale or remote pellet production.
- PTO (Power-Take-Off) Pellet Mill: Specifically designed for outdoor use, directly connecting to tractors or farm machinery for on-site pellet making, reducing extra costs.
Raw Materials & Applications of Flat Die Pellet Mill
A small flat die pellet mill is an efficient machine for small-scale production, capable of processing various raw materials widely used in agriculture, forestry, and livestock industries.
For biomass raw materials, it efficiently processes wood (hardwood and softwood), sawdust, straw, bamboo shavings, and grass, converting agricultural and forestry waste into high-density fuel pellets. These pellets are widely used for home heating and industrial combustion.
Softwood: Lower density, easier to process; commonly used in cheap, large-scale pellet production.Hardwood: Mahogany, walnut, oak, ash, birch, maple, cherry, beech, etc.
Softwood: Pine, larch, spruce, etc.
Additionally, ABC’s small pellet mill equipment is also suitable for feed production, processing corn, soybean meal, and forage, catering to household livestock, small farms, and pet feed needs.
With its flexible adaptability to raw materials, the small flat die pellet mill is the ideal choice for small users and entrepreneurs.

Technical Features of Flat Die Pellet Mill
The flat die pellet mill mainly consists of a feeding system, compression chamber, discharge unit, and power transmission system. The compression chamber is the core component, composed of a flat die and rollers, which exert high pressure to compress raw materials into pellets. The design, material, and precision of the flat die and rollers directly affect the machine’s performance and pellet quality.
Cost-Effective Pellet Machine Structure
01 Mold System
- The flat die is made of high-strength alloy steel, hardened at high temperatures and precision-machined, achieving a hardness of HRC50-55 for excellent wear resistance and durability.
- Flexible mold hole design, supporting customizable diameters (2.5mm-10mm) to suit different raw materials and finished pellet specifications.
02 Roller Assembly
- Made from high-strength alloy steel, surface-hardened and coated for enhanced durability and corrosion resistance.
- Equipped with a rolling bearing structure to ensure even pressure distribution, reducing vibration and noise during operation.
- Adjustable roller clearance, allowing quick adjustments to pressing force according to raw material properties and pellet specifications for uniform compression.
03 Power System
- Equipped with a high-performance motor providing stable and reliable power output. Power options range from 3kW to 22kW, meeting various home, farm, and small business production needs.
- The transmission system adopts a gear-driven structure instead of traditional belt transmission, achieving over 95% efficiency, eliminating belt slippage issues, and reducing power loss.
- Flexible power configurations: choose from electric, diesel, or PTO-driven pellet mills to suit different operational requirements.
04 Safety Features
- Protective Shields: All rotating parts are equipped with protective covers to prevent accidental contact and ensure safe operation.
05 Structural Design
-
- Compact design with a small footprint, making it suitable for home or small-scale installations.
- Modular design allows for easy disassembly and replacement of parts, ensuring convenient maintenance.
- Environmentally friendly design, reducing noise levels and energy consumption by approximately 15%-20% compared to traditional pellet mills.

Working Principle of Flat Die Pellet Mill
The flat die pellet mill operates by transmitting power to the rotating components, transferring force to the die and rollers. The strong pressure between the die and rollers compresses raw materials through the die holes to form pellets. During operation, materials are evenly fed into the hopper, where rollers continuously press the material through the die, extruding dense pellets of uniform length from the discharge outlet.
Machine Recommendation: Flat Die Rotating Plate vs. Flat Die Rotating Roller
The working principle of the flat die pellet mill is mainly divided into two types: rotating disk and rotating roller, with the key being the movement relationship between the flat die and rollers in the compression chamber, as shown in the figure below.
In the rotating disk pellet mill, the flat die rotates while the rollers remain stationary. In the rotating roller pellet mill, the rollers rotate while the flat die remains stationary.
In the production process of biomass pellets, the rotating roller pellet mill has higher adaptability compared to the rotating disk pellet mill, especially suitable for processing high-density, fibrous biomass materials such as hardwood. The rotating disk pellet mill is used for processing softwood or for making feed, with relatively lower prices.
